Phaunus Amphora Palhete 2022
Learn More About This Wine
The Palhete is a blend of Loureiro and Vinhão. Aphros makes the Phaunus range without electricity. Palhete is the local name for a wine that is made in a farmer’s style, by blending red and white grapes to create a low-alcohol wine to drink during the day. This biodynamically farmed and produced blend of Loureiro and Vinhao was crushed, destemmed and pressed by hand power, then fermented on skins in a large beeswax-lined talha (the traditional clay amphorae of Alentejo) for 7 months before it was bottled without filtration.
With exceptional conditions of soil and solar exposition, the vineyards lie on softly inclined hills looking over the Lima River. More than 20 hectares of an ecologically sound territory, rich in biodiversity, in which you find beside the vines, forests with species of acacia, oak, beech, pine and eucalyptus, chestnut orchards and a park of century old monumental trees.
Elegant red wine with 11% alcohol, combines finesse and aromatic intensity. The wine shows Rooibos tea, red fruit tea, a warm spiciness, aniseed, and cooling notes of eucalyptus and mint, it is juicy and fresh.
