Wine making at Schloss Gobelsburg dates back to 1171. The estate is under the direction of Michael Moosbrugger who is relentless in the pursuit of excellence in the wines he makes. He was also the driving force behind the creation of the Kamptal single vineyard classification.

Key vineyard sites include Lamm and Renner. The village wines of Langenlois for Gruner Veltliner and Zobing for Riesling are particularly interesting and bridge the gap between entry level wines and single vineyard wines.
