Capanna Rosso di Montalcino 2024
Learn More About This Wine
It is an irony of the appellation that the production is more focused on the top wines, the Brunello di Montalcino and actually less Rosso di Montalcino is produced relative to the production of the Brunellos. In our experience, therefore, the quality of Rosso can vary a lot; some are terribly basic, but the very best do not try to be a baby Brunello, but with less ageing they should be fresher and fruity. Vintage variation is very much a feature of the Montalcino wines. The 2024 vintage was a lighter and difficult vintage with a lot of rain and humidity. The northern part where Capanna are based is also the coolest part of Montalcino. Soils are varied, where you find clay, schist and marine limestone, adding to complexity. We introduce this as the first vintage, and it shows a light ruby colour, aromas and flavours of rose, savoury and leafy, and very fine tannins.
