Mouchao is one of the greatest and most traditional wine estates of the Alentejo and Portugal. The earliest plantings on its 38 hectares are from 1901 and of the Alicante Bouschet variety – which thrives in clay soils and heat. Wines from the newer vineyards, on higher ground at Trincadeira, Aragones and Castelao have been described by Steven Spurrier as having “Intense power and innate elegance”.
