Domaine Serol
Domaine Sérol is a leading estate in the Côte Roannaise, a small and lesser-known appellation in the upper Loire Valley, near the foothills of the Massif Central. The domaine has been family-run for several generations and is now managed by Stéphane and Carine Sérol, who have played a key role in revitalizing the region’s reputation for high-quality, terroir-expressive wines.
The estate cultivates around 27 hectares of vineyards, planted primarily with Gamay Saint Romain, a local variant of Gamay particularly well-suited to the area’s granite soils and higher altitudes (350–550 meters). Farming is fully organic and biodynamic, and most vineyard work is done by hand to preserve biodiversity and ensure optimal grape quality. Vinification at Domaine Sérol is focused on gentle extraction and minimal intervention. Whole-cluster fermentations, native yeasts, and aging in a mix of concrete, large oak, and amphora help to produce wines that are vibrant, fresh, and deeply reflective of their origin.
The red wines are known for their lively acidity, bright red fruit, and mineral character, often with a subtle, spicy edge.
