Easter lamb, what to drink

Ahead of Easter weekend, you might wonder which wine to drink with your lamb on Sunday. The go-to wines might not work if you become more adventurous with your cooking! Therefore, we are giving some alternative options in case you want to get more experimental, and some classics that will always work!

Please get in contact with Helene, Vera or Ben or email info@winemason.ie for more information.

Gusbourne – Twenty Eighteen Brut Rose – A sparkling English Rose might not be your first guess, but it works very well with the more delicate lamb dishes such as noisettes or rack of lamb that is served rosy pink. The palate is fresh, vibrant and dominated by red cherry, ripe strawberry and raspberry notes. A floral character lies behind the red fruit, alongside hints of nectarine and mandarin.

Bideona – Las Parcelasa classic reliable, the Bideona Rioja shows pure intense aromas of dark cherries with hints of violet and clove. It shows impressive complexity and concentration, reflecting the character of cooler-climate Rioja Alavesa, balanced by fresh acidity, chalky tannins, and a long, mineral finish.

Vinyes Forer Massard – Bellesa Perfecta – Intensely flavoured whites are good with grilled lamb marinated in garlic and herbs. This white from Priorat is made from Grenache Blanc and shows bright fresh fruit character with a richer mouthfeel.

Clos de l’Ours – L’Accent – This rosé from Provence is a great universal food pairing wine. Rosé goes great with grilled lamb; this biodynamic wine is fresh and fruity with citrus notes, but is harmonious and complex. A great gastronomic wine that will surprise you every day.

Bertram Baltes – Handwerk Spatburgunder – Instead of going to France for your Pinot Noir, the German Ahr region is a great place to discover this variety. It is probably the most northerly wine-growing region for red wines, but due to its unique microclimate and expressive soils, it has a proven track record in great Pinot Noir. Their goal is to make profound and characteristic wines which are clear, fresh and show fine fruits with an elegance, finesse and a high level of complexity.

Villa della Torre – Valpolicella Classico Monte Lencisa – This elegant super light red (it almost looks like a clairet rose) reveals notes of wild strawberries, cherries, sweet spices, and vibrant citrus. It is a fresh, savoury, and peppery wine, characterised by elegance and vibrancy, skilfully balancing freshness with structure.
