Le Puy Retour des Iles
Learn More About This Wine
Retour des Iles was born of the desire to recreate the sensations of the past when wines were shipped often great distances by boat.
Le Puy selects four barrels of wine in a year in which they believe the wine has the potential to undergo a voyage. The barrels are loaded into the hold of a brigantine sailboat, to cross the Atlantic solely under the force of the winds.
During this eight-month crossing, the wine is subjected to the swell of the sea, iodine and variations in air pressure and temperature. The wine thus develops unique aromas and flavours, lending it a new and incomparable dimension.
The results are remarkably well-balanced, round and full-bodied, long and fleshy with an intense expression of fruit accompanied by supple and airy tannins and an explosion of flavours. This is an incredible expressive wine with wonderful ageing potential.
