Magma
Learn More About This Wine
Tasting Note:
Magma delivers vibrant acidity, expressive tropical fruit flavors, and a lingering salty finish. Each sip is a reflection of the Azorean terroir and the skilled craftsmanship of the winemakers. This wine is a compelling expression of place—bold, fresh, and unmistakably volcanic.
Vineyard and Terroir:
Magma is made exclusively from the Verdelho grape, grown in the historic ‘Curraletas’ of Biscoitos, on Terceira Island in the Azores. These traditional vineyard plots are part of the island’s cultural landscape and heritage. The vines are planted on volcanic soils and surrounded by magma rocks, which provide natural protection from the strong Atlantic winds. This unique setting contributes to the wine’s distinctive character, rooted deeply in the volcanic essence of the Azores.
Winemaking:
Grapes are handpicked and carefully placed into 20 kg wicker baskets, then swiftly transported to the winery. After soft pressing of the whole de-stemmed grapes and cold clarification, the wine undergoes a 20-day fermentation period. It is then aged for five months on fine lees with bâtonnage, a technique that enhances texture and complexity. Only 3,900 bottles of this limited-production wine were made.
