Learn More About This Wine

The south-facing steep slope “Nonnenberg” is characterized by deep, greasy phyllite soils that end in loess loam in the lower slope. The name was derived from the nuns of the Tiefenthal monastery, who owned this slope and the buildings. The five-hectare vineyard area is solely owned by Georg Breuer with some vines over 70 years old.

During 2020, the winemakers mainly had to deal with drought stress in the vineyard. Although the vine with its long roots can compensate for drought, the now third dry season is clearly noticeable in three consecutive years. Fortunately, this did not affect the ripening of the grapes in the Rheingau area. The loose grapes of this vintage were healthy until harvest and had a fruity note.

The combination of stony Phyllite as well as loess and loam results in extremely powerful wines with full body, spiciness and racy acidity which are capable of long ageing.
