Pfaffenwies 2020
Learn More About This Wine
With approximately 3000 hectares, Rheingau is one of the smallest wine growing regions in Germany. The Pfaffenwies vineyards, predominantly south and south-west facing are characterized by the humid warmth of the Rhine, shallow, stony Hunsruck slate and Taunus quartzite soils and the deep loess in the lower slopes.
During 2000, winemakers mainly had to deal with drought stress in the vineyard. Although the vine with its long roots can compensate for drought, the now third dry season is clearly noticeable in three consecutive years. Fortunately, this did not affect the ripening of the grapes in the Rheingau area. The loose grapes of this vintage were healthy until harvest and had a fruity note.
Wines from Pfaffenwies typically show yellow fruit and some florality (chamomile), they tend to have great tension and a robust finish.
