Etna Rosso Fuedo di Mezzo 2022
Learn More About This Wine
Feudo di Mezzo is perhaps the largest Contrada of the Etna DOC: homogeneous in character, but with evident qualitative variations. Always the first vineyard to be harvested, it also always gives the most open, generous and smooth wine. The wine is velvety, with the smoothest tannins, with an enveloping bouquet. Its crepuscular nature which when it matures gains luminosity.Â
Fuedo di Mezzo consists of 1.5ha of 50-80 year old gobelet-trained vines at an altitude of 600-700 metres on the northern slope of Mount Etna. The soil here is soft, deep volcanic ash with basaltic pebbles. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation and maturation in French oak barriques and tonneaux. The wine is bottled after 18 months in oak. Â
The wine has lovely aromas recalling exotic spice, blue flower, camphor and a whiff recalling resin. On the enveloping, delicious palate, a backbone of velvety tannins seamlessly supports ripe Morello cherry, raspberry compote, licorice and nutmeg before a mentholated, savoury mineral finish. A gorgeous wine. Drink through 2032.
