Learn More About This Wine

The “Berg Schlossberg” is located at the end of the Rhine, where the river has dug its way north again. The steepest vineyards in the Rheingau, with an incline of up to 65%, are held here in part by high vineyard walls. The soil here consists of barren Rhine slate and Taunus quartzite and also serves as a heat store. The name comes from the Ehrenfels Castle, which can still be seen from afar as a ruin today.

After three years characterized by warm summers and low rainfall, 2021 presented with a cool and wet summer that challenged viticulturally. After a warm winter, again the fear was that an early bud break would occur and that the trend of the last few years would continue. But a cold spring luckily slowed down the development of nature. Due to cool temperatures in July and August, they only started harvesting in mid-September. The grapes were extremely varied in quality and quantity, as there was a back and forth in terms of weather throughout the year.

In Berg Schlossberg wines immense power and finesse come together. Salty and juicy at the same time. A lot of mineral spiciness. Delicate scent of stone fruits and orange skin. A Riesling which is very long lasting and with a monumental depth.
