Berg Rottland 2023
Learn More About This Wine
The word Rottland derives from an old word meaning “preparing land for cultivation”. The steep, south-facing Berg Rottland is located on the western outskirts of Rudesheim. The soils here consist of gray-blue clay slate with a humus-rich top layer, loess and weathered slate grit. The warmer microclimate shaped by the Rhine allows the grapes to ripen early.
In Rheingau, 2023 was characterized by mixed conditions. A hot and dry summer led to early ripening of the grapes and potentially high quality wines. August and September brought unexpected rainfall, presenting the winemakers with many challenges. However, strict selection of the harvest made it possible to maintain the excellent quality. This resulted in wines with a lot of character and finesse.
Berg Rottland produces mineral Rieslings with subtle power combining elegance with lushness, typical aromas include apricot, apple, herbs, juicy lemon and some stoniness.
