Learn More About This Wine

The word Rottland derives from an old word meaning “preparing land for cultivation”. The steep, south-facing Berg Rottland is located on the western outskirts of Rudesheim. The soils here consist of gray-blue clay slate with a humus-rich top layer, loess and weathered slate grit. The warmer microclimate shaped by the Rhine allows the grapes to ripen early.

After three years characterized by warm summers and low rainfall, 2021 presented with a cool and wet summer that challenged viticulturally. After a warm winter, it was feared that there would be an early bud break, but a cold spring luckily slowed down the development of nature. Due to cool temperatures in July and August, harvest only started in mid-September. The grapes were extremely varied in quality and quantity, as there was back and forth in terms of weather throughout the year.

Berg Rottland produces mineral Rieslings with subtle power combining elegance with lushness, typical aromas include apricot, apple, herbs, juicy lemon and some stoniness.
