Berg Rottland 2018
Learn More About This Wine
The word Rottland derives from an old word meaning “preparing land for cultivation”. The steep, south-facing Berg Rottland is located on the western outskirts of Rudesheim. The soils here consist of gray-blue clay slate with a humus-rich top layer, loess and weathered slate grit. The warmer microclimate shaped by the Rhine allows the grapes to ripen early.
2018 was a fantastic year for the vegetation in the vineyards. A bitter cold winter benefited the important hibernation of the vines. Mild temperatures in spring caused an early bud break. The vineyards were luckily spared of winter frost. One of the hottest summers in the history of the winery followed. The dryness didn’t affect the growth much and protected the vines from fungal diseases. The vines were carrying a lot of grapes and the yield was high. The quality of the grape material was magnificent.
Berg Rottland produces mineral Rieslings with subtle power combining elegance with lushness, typical aromas include apricot, apple, herbs, juicy lemon and some stoniness.
