Domaine de Bellevue Jerome Bretaudeau
Thanks to Jérôme Bretaudeau’s innovative approach and passion for winemaking, Domaine de Bellevue—a certified organic and biodynamic estate in the Pays Nantais—is helping to modernise Muscadet.
Located in the western Loire, the region’s granite soils and Atlantic breezes give Melon de Bourgogne its signature high acidity. Domaine de Bellevue spans a variety of terroirs across several communes, producing an unexpected range of grape varieties vinified in diverse ways.
After studying viticulture, Jérôme worked at local wineries for over a decade before taking over his family’s small vineyard in 2001. He gradually expanded by acquiring neighboring plots, aiming to make wines he loved—while staying true to Muscadet’s roots. Today, the 15-hectare domaine grows Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Melon de Bourgogne, Savagnin, Chardonnay, and more. All grapes are estate-grown, and the winery produces around 80,000 bottles annually with a six-person team.
Domaine de Bellevue became organic in 2012 and adopted biodynamic practices in 2020, earning Biodyvin certification. Jérôme still follows his own path—most wines are labeled as Vin de France due to his free experimentation with varieties, vessels, and ageing. Many cuvées are rare with cult-like status and are highly sought after internationally.
