Tement

Weingut Tement is a family-owned estate in the Südsteiermark region of southern Austria, near the Slovenian border. Founded in 1959 by Josef Tement, the winery has grown under the leadership of the second and third generations – Armin and Stefan Tement – into one of Austria’s most renowned producers of high-quality white wines.

With around 100 hectares of vineyards spread across both Austria and Slovenia, the estate focuses primarily on Sauvignon Blanc, the leading variety in the region. Tement’s wines are known for their precision, minerality, and clarity of expression, reflecting the unique soils, altitudes, and microclimates of Südsteiermark. A central site is Zieregg, one of Austria’s most prestigious single vineyards. Wines from Zieregg – and other classified single sites – are vinified with great care, relying on spontaneous fermentation, extended lees contact, and minimal intervention to capture thecharacter of each vintage and terroir. Since  2022, the estate has been certified organic, following years of sustainable vineyard practices and a strong commitment to biodiversity and soil health. Most vineyard work is done by hand, reflecting the steep slopes and focus on quality. The terroir here is defined by steep, high-altitude vineyards with limestone and clay-rich soils, cooled by Alpine winds and significant diurnal temperature shifts. These factors contribute to wines with vibrant acidity, minerality, and remarkable aging potential.
