Arktos Elevation Vineyards
Artemis Karamolegos from the eponymous Santorini winery is the founder of Arktos Elevation Vineyards. What first enthralled him about Amyndeo was its extraordinary altitude. A challenge he found impossible to resist was to create Assyrtiko amidst such a cool and singular climate. At the same time, the signature red variety of Northern Greece, Xinomavro, captivated him, a varietal brimming with intensity, character, and infinite potential. With patience and meticulous vinification, it can stand next to the world’s most ageworthy wines.
The region’s microclimate is exceptional. The lakes and the landscape provide coolness in the summer and retain warmth in the winter – ideal conditions allowing the vines to achieve equilibrium between canopy growth and fruit set. The bear, emblem of Northern Greece, serves as the inspiration for the label design. It embodies wisdom, strength, and resilience – the very qualities they aspire to convey about the Arktos project.
Amyndeo has a mountainous terrain with a continental climate. At 700 meters above sea level, in the heart of Florina, this region is steadily establishing itself among Greece’s top wine-producing regions. The difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures can reach up to 15 degrees Celcius, slowing grape ripening and preserving natural freshness. The surrounding lakes play a crucial role, creating a microclimate for vines to ripen in a balanced and harmonious way.
