Domaine Josmeyer
The family-owned winery, created in 1854 in Alsace, near Colmar, is committed to organic and biodynamic farming. Today, the winery is run by two sisters, Celine and Isabelle, following in their fathers footsteps. The vineyard, which spans 24.4 hectares, has been organically and biodynamically cultivated since 2000 and certified since 2004.
The philosophy of biodynamics emphasises the importance of a living and balanced soil for the vine to thrive harmoniously and adapt to climate change. In the cellar, the wines ferment naturally at their own pace. The sisters have a fierce desire to let the wines transcribe the vintage, and to showcase terroirs, with a lively, deep and complex personality. The winery also uses plants in the form of herbal teas or decoctions to reduce copper and sulphur doses and strengthen the natural immune system of the vine.
In the cellar, the deep desire to respect the raw material, the grapes, drives the choices made in the vineyard. Grapes are selected, sorted, and harvested manually, and the juices flow by gravity into receiving tanks. Fermentation begins naturally in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. The wines are aged in fine lees, protected in old oak vats, over a period varying from 6 to 10 months. The human hand is limited to its minimum in the cellar, allowing the voices of the wine to express itself freely and fully through each vintage.
