Castello di Volpaia

Named after the village of Volpaia, it is one of the highest vineyard sites (450-600m) in the Chianti Classico and dates to 1172. The winery is owned by Giovanella Stianti and her husband Carlo Mascheroni who took over in 1972 after receiving the estate as a very generous wedding gift.
They set upon modernising the cellar and estate while maintaining every inch of history. They are also committed to farming their 46ha organically. Sandstone soils predominate. The Chianti Classico is aged for 12 months compared to the Riserva which is aged for 24 months.
