On 26 October we returned to tasting events proper and were happy to welcome over 80 enthusiastic tasters to sample 80 wines from Portugal and Galicia at the Sky Suite, Radisson Blu, Dublin 8. It was made all the more special and fun to collaborate with our friends at VinosTito and GrapeCircus.
One of our objectives was to highlight regional identities. You like Portuguese wine you might say but it is a good time to talk more about the regions rather than just Portugal in a more general way – Azores, Vinho Verde, Douro, Dao, Bairrada, Lisboa, Alentejo offer a kaleidoscope of tastes and styles.
Highlights of the day, we have been told, included the Redoma whites, Coche, Charme and in general the Douro, a region that gives consistently ambitious wines. Vinho Verdes while different to the wines of Galicia proved to be as brilliant and even possibly more interesting. Whether you like high acid white and reds, more opulent styles, mineral wines, volcanic origins, orange, fortified, we hope you found plenty to enjoy.
