Hirschenreyn Gruner Veltliner
Learn More About This Wine
The coolest plot of Zillinger, exposed to the north, right on the edge of a forest, deep clay and loess soil. The wine is dense, eathy, ripe and yellow-fruited, with a cool, mineral vein, very vital and lively. After a slow fermentation for more than a year in large wooden barrels, the wine was allowed to mature on the full lees, it was not filtered before bottling.
Vivid yellow coloured wine with an intense yet fresh, coolish and pretty spicy bouquet with ripe phenolic notes intertwined with ripe and intense yellow fruit with buttercup and summer herbal notes. Intense, round and elegant on the palate. This is a medium to full-bodied, textural, piquant and persistently salty-mineral Veltliner with an intense tensioned and finally tannic finish as well as lingering piquancy and juicy purity.
“Real lift on the nose, this dances. Really quite delicate fruit on the palate with a particularly dry finish. Real chewiness on the end. Not ready yet, I think. Just a little hole in the middle that needs to be filled. But there is clearly seriousness of intent.”
