Learn More About This Wine

Situated on the southeastern section of Heiligenstein, the single vineyard Ried Lamm guarantees expressive, multilayered Gruner Veltliner Kamptal DAC with elegance and grace. The terroir here is loessy and clay-rich, its subsoil geology shaped by Heiligenstein’s elements (sandstone, volcanic rock, high silt content). This interplay of soils makes it possible to produce such exceptional Gruner Veltliner. In addition, the south-facing slope benefits from a district microclimate.

Maceration period, spontaneous fermentation and ageing in large and small wooden barrels, 6 months on full lees, bottled in August.

Fine floral honey on the nose, with a hint of mandarin zest, yellow Mirabelle plums and delicate white nougat in an inviting bouquet. Juicy and elegant, with refined fruit sweetness, yellow tropical fruit nuances, a delicate acidic arc, subtle spice aromas underpinned by smoky notes and beeswax, leading to a long-lasting finish and great potential.

Best in Show Decanter awards 2026 – 97 points

This is the first-ever Best in Show appearance by a wine from Austria’s Kamptal, and the judges who had a chance to assess this wine were impressed by its texture, layering, complexity, and what one judge called its strength of fruit. Gruner Veltliner is never a forceful or focused aromatic variety, but the soft melding of apple, yellow, plum, wild meadow flowers and gentle creme anglaise notes (all hints, nothing spelt out) makes for a winning aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is richly textured and powerful, tumbling and unfolding over the tongue, it retains an orchard fruit profile while at the same time hinting at something a little more exotic and high-summery. The acidity is soft, tender and drips with fruit intensity. Magnificently limpid winemaking with raw materials that must surely come from a fine site or combination of sites.
