The Jura vineyards – which covers 1900 ha – belong to the northern vineyards of France with Champagne, Alsace, and Burgundy. It stretches along a north-south axis, from Salins-les-Bains to Saint-Amour. This strip of land called “Good Country” to the north and “Revermont” south is bounded to the east by the first limestone plateau of the Jura Mountains and to the west by the plain of Bresse. Opposite, along the same axis, the Burgundian vineyard. Arbois & Buvilly, villages where the vineyards are located, are then on the same parallel as Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne. The vineyard is located on rolling hills of limestone with an average altitude between 200 to 400 metres. It enjoys a semi-continental climate (temperatures variations can be unexpected) and enjoys an atmosphere of semi-continental (climatic variations can be brutal). These conditions are perfect to build the elegant structure and the fine aromas of great white wines.
Hanharvesting to preserve the integrity of the grapes, so the purity of the wine. Alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation (100% completed) are spontaneous, made by the natural flora of the grapes and of the cellar. No selected yeast or external bacteria, no enzyme and no activator. The whole vinification takes place into French oak barrels, most of them are 8 to 12 years old, 20% more recent barrels, and less than 5% new oak. On the lees fermentation, no racking or stirring, to highlight the purity of the aromas, regular topping-up of the barrels, for 12 months.
The expressive nose has a great complexity, evaluating while the bottle is emptied. That is the Traminer character which expresses here, with mixed aromas of white fruits and candied grapefruit, of pastoral flowers and menthol, with some spiked notes of ginger and white pepper. The palate is both tense and generous, supported by a “ripe” acidity, linked to the DNA of this grape. The finish is outstandingly lively and crispy, with a salty minerality which makes salvitae and invites you to drink another glass.
2022 is a vintage round and rich, harvested to a long sunny and dry period. But thanks to the outstanding terroir and the work done at the vineyard, vines were able to produce a good level of yield, welcomed to help to maintain a good balance in the musts. As a consequence, the vintage 2022 offers juicy round wines, with a great density and minerality which energise the wines.
