Learn More About This Wine

This wine is part of the “Artist Series”, with the label changing every 3 years. Brown and ochre tones are the preferred colours of this grape variety, with a deeply earthy character. A dozen small plots on alluvial and gravelly soils located on the plain around the communes of Wintzenheim, Tuckheim and Wettolsheim with an average vine age of 40 years. Fromenteau was imagined and created by Jean Meyer in 1992. This charming name which recalls the cereal is the old name given to Pinot Gris, Notably in Champagne.

Manual harvest followed by a traditional approach. Whole-bunch pressing for about 6 hours in the pneumatic press. Settling is natural and fermentation begins spontaneously with yeast from the environment in the century-old tuns. It is followed by ageing on fine lees for several months until bottling.

This dry Pinot Gris is an ode to the earth. It is defined by its firm and fleshy structure. It typically shows scents of forest, hazelnuts, bakery or even sappy and saline notes, sometimes gamey, often smoky, grilled or even roasted with age. The palate, carried by its earthy character linked to the fruit, is long and persistent thanks to a supple but restrained acidity. The very present salinity develops a few minutes of aeration.

This wine will go wonderfully with white meats, cereals, legumes (lentil salad, chickpea hummus) and vegetarian cuisine. Thai or spicy foods with marinades based on soy sauce also suit it.
