Tasting season is looming and we have some events that will have your spittoons brimming over with excitement.
Master of Wine Richard Kershaw from Richard Kershaw Wines will be joining us at the start of September. Kershaw produces site specific, clonal selection and cool climate wines made in Elgin. Read more about his wines and his journey into the winemaking world here. He will be kicking off his visit on the 5th of September with a master class in Ely Place. Let us know if you are interested in attending. There will also be a consumer tasting in The Corkscrew on the 6th of September
We are launching Niepoort 2017 Vintage Port on 17 September with a tasting to be held at 2pm at Upstairs at No. 4 above The Corkscrew Wine Shop, Chatham Street. Winemaker Dirk Niepoort has declared his 2017 Vintage Port, hailing it as “the best wine I’ve ever done.” If that statement isn’t enough to wet your palate, we give up! If you do need more convincing here’s what Mark Squires from The Wine Advocate has to say on the vintage: “It is hard to think of any basis on which this is not perfection just now. It’s the best I’ve ever seen from Niepoort and it is a leading candidate for “Wine of the Vintage”.
The California Wine Institute (CWI) will be launching Collectible California for the first time in Ireland and we will be participating. Taking place on the 23rd of September (venue tbc)
Pieter Walser from BLANKbottle winery will also be making the trip from South Africa to visit us on the 15th/16th October. When asked to describe his winemaking philosophy Pieter states, “Clothes maketh not the man; judge my wines on what’s in the bottle, not the varietal on the label.” Make sure you come and judge the contents of the BLANKbottle bottles with the man himself. More information to come soon.
SPIT 2019, the wine tasting for industry professionals is celebrating its 5th year and it’s not be missed! It will be taking place in The Chocolate Factory, Dublin 2 on 24th October. To celebrate the anniversary Winemason, Nomad Wines, Vinostito and Grapecircus are inviting a selection of their chosen winemakers to showcase their wines. This is an essential opportunity to discover some of the more exciting organic and biodynamic wines available in the independent sector in Ireland.
