One of our favourite reads of the year, Wilson on Wine 2018 is available in shops to guide you though a selection of wines worth buying and drinking.
Several of our wines are included and here is a selection of whites
Magma 2015 DO Biscoitos from the Azores described as “deep in colour with floral notes: lemon pith, grilled nuts and grapefruit with a distinctive saline minerality. Quirky wine with a huge personality.”
John suggests drinking Chardonnay 2016 Mountain Vineyards, Julien Schaal, Elgin with Turbot, brown butter and capers.
Berthet-Bondet Cotes du Jura Tradition 2013. The wines of Jura have become ultra fashionable in restaurants and wine bars around the world. Described as a “Captivating fino-like wine with tangy, racy, windfall apple fruits, grilled nuts and a dry finish. To be honest this falls into the weird and wonderful category, but is well worth trying. Drink with chicken or pork in a creamy mushroom sauce, a fantastic match as is Comte cheese.”
The winemaker of Moment of Silence 2016 is Pieter Hauptfleisch Walser. According to John tasting wine with Pieter Walser, who talks a lot, is not easy, but he “was certainly impressed by his work.The results speak for themselves; always intriguing, usually amazing.”
