Mallorca is undergoing a defiant and welcome wine revolution. As the island has become synonymous with great gastronomy wine production has followed suit, with a small handful of winemakers at the helm, making wines they are proud to call Majorcan.
Fighting the good fight, sixth generation winemaker, Tomeau Llabrés opened the doors of his garagiste winery in Binnisalem, the oldest DOP on the island, in 2012. Championing indigenous Mallorcan grape varietals, minimal intervention and respectful viticulture, Ca’n Verdura produce wines with character and playful personality.
Supernova Blanc is 100% Moll, or Prensal as its locally known, aged on its lees for five months, and gently stirred every three days. It has notes of white stone fruit and herbal elements like fennel and camomile.
Supernova Negra is 100% Manto Negro, sourced from 10 small plots of potted vines. It is scented and gentle with an earthy warmth from the distinctive Mallorcan red clay soil. It is fresh, fruity, and best enjoyed with a slight chill.
The grapes are manually harvested and fermentation is temperature controlled to retain freshness and purity of fruit, takes place in a mix of 500l French oak barrels and stainless steel.
The production is tiny, with less than 15,000 bottles of each wine we import made each year. Our excitement to have them on our shores is ineffable. Enjoy them before they’re all gone!
